Who Can a Life Purpose Coach Help?

Who are the people that life purpose coaches can help with? Can life purpose coaches be hired by large organizations? If so, who is hiring?

I am sure you have all these questions running through your mind right now.

Don’t worry. You have come to the right place. Throughout this blog, I will answer all your queries.

Target Audience of a Life Purpose Coach

Let us begin with the question about viability.

Irrespective of whether you are beginning your career as a life purpose coach or not, it is natural for you to be worried about your business right now. At a time when all global economies are witnessing a crisis, will people pay to employ a life purpose coach?

I believe they will.

But, as a life purpose coach, you will need to be smart about how to package your services and how you will offer them. Read my earlier blogs for tips on coaching. Better still, read this blog and in the end, I may have a surprise for you!

What Does a Life Purpose Coach Achieve?

A life purpose coach guides clients to visualize how they would like their life to be. And then helps them to make it a reality.

A life purpose coach is usually asked to help:

  • Identify natural skills, strengths, and talents
  • Overcome doubts
  • Align purpose with skills
  • Increase self-confidence
  • Help clients learn and hone skills for their true calling

Is a Life Coach and Life Purpose Coach the Same?

No, the two may not be the same.

A life purpose coach is similar to a life coach in one respect.

A life purpose coach helps a client by empowering and encouraging him/her to live a better life.

Although similar to a life coach, a life purpose coach focuses more on finding the direction/purpose that will guide a client towards a more productive life.

A life coach will use elements from a life purpose coach. But when a client hires a life purpose coach, it is for a short, incisive coaching session with only one purpose in mind.

Life Purpose Coach Job Opportunities

The best part of being a life purpose coach is that there is no age limit for your clients! As a life purpose coach, you are in a position to help everyone!

Your clients can include a college student on the brink of graduation or a renowned industry expert mulling his retirement! How you market yourself to your target audience will make all the difference.

Concerns of a Life Purpose Coach

Irrespective of which stage of your career you are at, I have found that some concerns remain the same for all life purpose coaches. It does not matter whether you are an executive, spiritual or success coach. Everyone has one big concern: will I be able to be successful?

  1. How will I get clients?
  2. How can I get noticed in a crowded market?
  3. How will I advertise my services?
  4. Will I earn enough money?

Can you relate to these concerns? If these are some of the questions you have asked yourself, then hopefully you will find the answers in this blog.

What Does a Life Purpose Coach Do?

Essentially, life purpose coaches help clients introspect and face their inhibitions, perceived weaknesses, and self-esteem and self-love issues.

And how does this help clients?

Well, for starters, it helps them to de-clutter their thoughts. Hiring a life purpose coach can have a remarkable turnaround for any individual attempting to reorganize their life.

It also helps clients to build their confidence. Once they become aware of their inherent strengths, aligning their skills to their strengths does not take much effort. And the end result can be amazing!

I found this hilarious article online here. While you will need to tailor your questions according to your client, you will enjoy reading this for sure.

In essence, a life purpose coach addresses the most common desire of every human being: to know their worth and be successful in their personal and professional lives.

Have you heard this podcast by Harvard Business Review called What Can Coaches Do for You?. Although the discussion is about executive coaching, the podcast and article are relevant to life purpose coaches too.

You may find some related pointers on how clients can benefit from self-esteem coaching in my earlier blog. The name of the blog is Self-Esteem Coaching: How to Become a Self-Esteem Coach and Get High-End Clients.

Questions You Can Ask as a Life Purpose Coach

There are several websites that will provide you enough sample questions that you can ask clients. It is important to understand and remember that all your clients will have different needs.

So, you should keep separate lists of questions ready. Once you have some understanding of your client, you can choose relevant ones to ask.

If you are up for a laugh, I would recommend that you read this. Advance warning: there is some toilet humor involved in this particular article.

But look at the objective. Humor is always a great ice-breaker. And laughing at yourself can reinforce the point that no one should take themselves seriously.

There is a list of questions here that categorize questions based on areas of your client’s life that need reorganization. I have listed some examples from this article. Read the whole post and choose a couple from each category to make your own list.

Some of the questions that lead to Self Awareness are:

  • What are my talents and natural abilities?
  • Where do my core strengths lie?
  • Where am I most effective, efficient, and productive?
  • What are my three key weaknesses?
  • Where do I struggle most in life?
  • What kind of life roles do I enjoy living?

Questions under self-motivation mentioned in the article are:

  • What causes am I most passionate about?
  • With a year to live, what would I focus on?
  • What three things do I look forward to doing most?
  • What three things am I most dreading?
  • Where do I like to expend my energy?
  • What’s been the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done?

Questions that help identify dreams are:

  • What dreams would I pursue if I had unlimited potential?
  • What specifically would I like to experience?
  • What things would I like to learn?
  • What types of skills would I like to master?
  • How would I like to express my creativity?
  • What things would I like to create?
  • Which of these things would I regret most not doing?

These are a few effective ones but you can make your own list to get the client to open up. You may also find other pointers in my blog 5 Powerful Coaching Questions to Ask Your Clients Based on Your Coaching Niche.

Marketing Tips for a Life Purpose Coach

Is marketing going to help you as a life purpose coach?

In my blog Is Marketing Crucial to My Coaching Business, I have addressed this question in some detail.

What is marketing? Why do you need it as a life purpose coach?

A 2018 article states that “two-thirds of adults in the United States (US) say that trust in a brand has a great deal (31%) or a lot (37%) of influence on their decision when making a big purchase, reports Survey Monkey. Adults in the United States are not alone in the importance they place on trust: a majority of respondents in the United Kingdom (57%) and Canada (69%) also say that trust in a brand has a great deal or a lot of impact on their decision-making.

This article also supports my advice. It answers the simple question about why one needs marketing right from the start.

“Building your brand is a crucial part of building your business. Questions you need to consider to build the foundation of both your business and brand include:

  • What are the needs of your target customers?
  • How do your competitors meet the needs of your target customers?
  • How can you help your target customers understand why your product or service is better than, or different from, the competition?”

My marketing related blogs here  will also help you understand how you can market your brand as a life purpose coach.

One essential thing you must remember is this: As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more people will be spending time online. They will be looking for jobs (survival mode) and social connections online.

As a life purpose coach, you are already working in a niche with a clear definition of what you do. Irrespective of whether your clients are ready for change or not, you will definitely have their attention for the first few minutes.

  • Use that opportunity with a killer elevator pitch
  • Brush up on your online marketing skills
  • Showcase how “empowered” your clients will feel after their coaching session with a life purpose coach

Salary of a Life Purpose Coach

Now let us address the all-important question of earning. Will you earn enough to give your family a comfortable lifestyle as a life purpose coach?

This website provides details on how much life coaches can earn. Ziprecruiter pegs the annual salary of a life coach at $59,630 on average. Unfortunately, there is no exact salary listed for life purpose coach as most companies opt to look for a life coach who can offer these services too.

Is there a Market for a Life Purpose Coach

Is there enough demand in the market for a life purpose coach?

Coaching is a growing industry.

Let us look at some facts and figures. I have mentioned these statistics in my earlier blog posts as well. But this sets the context in terms of what you can expect to earn as a life purpose coach.

This post claims that the life coaching industry has crossed the 1 billion dollar mark.

  • The International Coach Federation boasts 53,300 members. It has a steady growth trend.
  • The average income for life coaches ranges from $27,100 to $73,100. Specialty coaches can charge more than $100,000 annually.
  • Growth projections for the life coaching industry are an estimated 6.7%. This would take revenues to $1.34 billion by 2022.
  • 92% of life coaches remain active in the field.
  • In Asia, there were around 3,700 coaches. They contributed $113 million in total annual revenue.
  • More and more corporations are hiring life coaches instead of mental health counselors to work with employees (no stigma).
  • Life coaches remain unregulated. There are no state licensing requirements. This suggests freedom of practice, but also raises concerns about quality.
  • Executive coaches can earn a handsome salary too. Salaries start at $150 and can go up to $350 for most coaches. Executive coaches can also charge $1,000 per session.

Do people actually benefit from coaching?

This news report from the 2017 ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study claims that customers are happy! The research was also conducted by PwC Research. It stated:

  • 89% of people in India are aware of life coaching
  • 59% have partnered with a life coach at some time
  • 97% expressed satisfaction with the experience

Since you have chosen a very specific niche as a life purpose coach, tap into this enormous market. You may want to read more about niches in my blog The Ultimate Guide To Finding Your Coaching Niche.

The other common question I hear is this: How will one get the brand name noticed? The market is evolving and growing. But the competition is also getting tougher. You may want to refer to my blog How to promote your life coaching business? for tips on this.

What Are the Qualities Needed For Life Purpose Coaching?

What are the qualities of a good life purpose coach?

All good coaches, irrespective of a niche, share some common traits. I have written about these in detail in a few blogs. In my previous blog Top 10 Coaching Skills You Must Have as a Life Coach, I have mentioned several qualities. The top three relevant qualities for you as a life purpose coach are:

  • Remaining impartial and non-judgemental: This is a tough ask. But remember that this is not your journey. So do not get personal. Listen attentively and understand the client’s specific challenges and dreams. Together, build a realistic plan.
  • Objectivity: It is not just fear that governs a client’s inability to chase her life purpose. Sometimes, it may be a lack of any support or financial concerns. After all, a single earning member will want to take the ‘safe’ path and put food on the table. Mulling on what their life purpose should be is a luxury denied to many. As a coach, validate their reasons. You can help them understand themselves and plan for their dreams. But you cannot help them reach their goals unless they are ready.
  • Accountability: This is the most important task of a life purpose coach. Is your client capable of delivering against mutually set goals? If not, this is where you step in. Set simpler goals and insist on meeting them. Begin with a weekly calendar and start slow. Help your client change habits and they will thank you later.

These qualities are common for coaches across all coaching models.

Several other qualities make for a good coach. You may want to refer to my blog on 21 Coaching Skills Every Successful Coach Needs and Top Qualities Of A Successful Coach.

These qualities mentioned are helpful for all coaches, including life purpose coaches.

Top Qualifications Required in a Life Purpose Coach

All good coaches have some of the traits I have mentioned above. However, the most important trait is the desire to help people.

But are there certain specific degrees needed to practice as a life purpose coach?

Invest in yourself before asking others to invest in you. Look for training courses that will give you a head start in your career as a life purpose coach. But apart from that, there is no particular degree that you must have unlike in the medical sector.

In some cases, relevant sector experience helps.
