Who needs a dream coach and why?
Let us study that first to know why having a dream coach can help people lead better lives.
- Tom has a great life. A house, two children, a loving wife, and financial stability. He also aspires to have a beach house but can never manage to save up for it. Can a dream coach help?
- Melinda is living the life of her dreams. Yet she is haunted by the imposter syndrome. She just does not feel that she deserves this success, despite having worked very hard to reach this place. She cannot quite understand why she suffers from self-esteem issues. Can a dream coach help her?
- Olga has great grades but is not sure about which direction to take. Everybody tells her that she should pursue academics but she really wants to take an art course. What should she do? Should she reach out to a dream coach?
The answer to all the above questions is yes. A dream coach can help.
A dream coach takes a step-by-step approach to bringing a client’s vision to fruition and helping him/her create a “dream come true” life.
What Does A Dream Coach Do?
This website defines a dream coach as someone who assists others in getting what they want personally and professionally. The coaching process helps people find their life’s purpose, ignite their passion, clarify their dreams, remove all obstacles (including not having enough time or money), take action and produce fast results.
The article is also relevant as it shows how we are mired in life’s problems. This means we spend more time navigating through the immediate and do not plan for what we really want from the future. This is where a dream coach steps in.
Such an external trained person, such as a coach, helps clients concentrate on the future by exploring:
1. Where the client is at present
2. What he/she is willing to do to get to the dream future
A dream coach helps clients realize that results are a matter of intentions, choices and actions.
This brings me to the next point I want to discuss. How does a dream coach bring about change?
How Does A Dream Coach Work?
Dream coaches usually hear a few common statements from their clients on a daily basis. The exact nature of the dream may be different for different people but the larger framework is somewhat like the following. Clients often say:
- I want to do work that I love. But I also want to be paid well.
- I want my business to be successful.
- I want more quality time with my family.
- I want to bring back a trophy/medal for my team (in a particular championship)
- I want to live a meaningful life by giving back to society and making a difference.
- I want to lose weight/I want to be healthy and fit.
At some level, any client that is hiring you has a vague idea of what their ideal life looks like. But they need help with the fulfillment of their vision. In short, they want to know how to make their dreams come true.
Study your client
As a dream coach, every client will come to you with a new challenge.
Begin by asking your client two simple questions.
- What is your dream?
- How can I help you?
It seems like a no-brainer.
But use that as a foundation.
What the client says at this point is not written in stone. But the opportunity that you provide will help the client get in touch with his purpose and passion. He will define his dreams and hopes as he talks to you. He will also be able to formulate his existing fears and doubts.
Listen attentively but you may interrupt if you feel that the client is rambling. Bring the discussion back to the key points as many times as you need.
And then, come up with a realistic plan of how the coaching engagement will look. Ensure that your client is the one doing the hard work of drawing up goals.
These steps I have mentioned above will define the nature of your coaching session and show you how to take each individual forward on the journey towards living their dream life.

Plan the path
What clients crave the most from a dream coach is a clear direction. Your client may know what they are looking for but may not know how to get there.
- Work out the plan of action with your client.
- Identify challenges (internal and external) and explore how to meet them.
- Put down the overarching goal and timeline.
- Create a strategy for getting there, including timelines.
- Create a list of essential action steps or tactics to achieve the strategies.
- Motivate the client often by highlighting successes.
This process will help the client reach his/her goal.
It all comes down to taking action and the practical steps for making dreams come to life.
Be an anchor
The path for a dream coach is never easy.
What any client needs is support. You know that already.
But clients also need boundaries. This means it is your job as a dream coach to hold them accountable to their achievement of milestones.
Support them by marking progress on a regular basis, even on a daily basis, if needed.
Qualities of a Dream Coach
Having explored the process above, it is needless to say that there are some qualities that dream coaches need to have.
Irrespective of a niche, all good coaches share a few common traits that make them successful.

Being an Effective Listener
Listen attentively but remain impartial and non-judgmental. Let the client outline his dreams and goals. Let him talk about his fears and doubts. Give him full rein to explore his past and outline his future. All this is merely laying down the groundwork and will be crucial for you. Ask relevant questions.
Being an Objective Sounding Board
The client will trust you as a partner in his journey if you can prove that you are worthy of trust. You need to be objective in your approach. He will also need you to hold him accountable as you work together.
Delivering Value for Money
Every customer wants value for money. It is no different for your clients. Structured sessions with clear goals and a step-by-step implementation plan will show your client that he will be getting his money’s worth from his coaching sessions with you. Moreover, you can also offer some additional tips to your clients. Help him build a great elevator pitch for his business or help him with some tips on online marketing skills. Will Qualifications Help You As a Dream Coach?
All good coaches have some of the traits I have mentioned above.
But are there certain specific degrees needed to practice as a dream coach? Not really.
I always say, invest in yourself before asking others to invest in you. Some training courses from accredited universities like the ICF that will give you a head start in your career as a dream coach. But apart from that there is no particular degree that you must have.
In the medical sector, a doctor needs to have a medical degree to prescribe medicines. However, a dream coach is not going to be asked to show his degrees to get clients.
In some cases, relevant sector experience helps. But largely word of mouth and solid experience will go a long way to secure you future clients as a dream coach.
Should You Train to Be A Dream Coach?
You do not need certification or a degree to be a dream coach! I have written about this in my blog Do you need Coaching Certification in 2020?
Why is this the case? Well, till now, the coaching industry is unregulated. This means anyone can claim to be a coach. Your success will depend on your coaching experience, marketing skills and good client recommendations.
However, a degree from a reputed coaching institute will help you get a foot in the door. However, you need to understand your targeted industry and audience better and make connections. Network, network, network. That is the golden rule for coaches.

Who is Hiring a Dream Coach?
While everybody in the world is grappling with the after-effects of Covid-19 pandemic, you may be wondering if there is a market for your coaching practice.
Who are the people that a dream coach can help? Are large organizations hiring? If so, who is hiring?
Some questions that often haunt coaches are:
- Is this a tough market to find clients?
- Can you get noticed in a crowded market?
- How will you advertise your services?
- Will you earn enough money?

Can Marketing Help a Dream Coach?

A 2018 article states that “two-thirds of adults in the United States (US) say that trust in a brand has a great deal (31%) or a lot (37%) of influence on their decision when making a big purchase, reports Survey Monkey. Adults in the United States are not alone in the importance they place on trust: a majority of respondents in the United Kingdom (57%) and Canada (69%) also say that trust in a brand has a great deal or a lot of impact on their decision-making.

Salary of a Dream Coach
Now let us address the all important question of earning. Will you earn enough to give your family a comfortable lifestyle as a dream coach?
Let us look at some broad parameters. How much can a dream coach earn?
Although there are no reference parameters online, a dream coach is in a unique position as he can cater to executive clients as well as those who are looking for a life coach.
According to Payscale, the average salary for a business coach is $70,400. On the other hand, Ziprecruiter reports that the average annual pay for an Executive Business Coach Job in the US is $84,914 a year.
The average annual pay for a Life Coach Job in the US is $59630 a year, according to Ziprecruiter.
This gives you an idea of the range you can work with when it comes to negotiating for a salary.
Coaching is a growing industry. This post claims that the life coaching industry has crossed the $1 billion dollar mark. Average income for life coaches ranges from $27,100 to $73,100. Specialty coaches can charge more than $100,000 annually.
So rest assured! You will be earning enough to support your family as a dream coach.
